My identification of Eccritothrix trimaculella is based
on comparison with photographs on the web site "All Leps Barcode of
Life" at http://www.lepbarcoding.org/index.php and on the description of
this species in Forbes, William T.M., The Lepidoptera of New York and
Neighboring States, Primitive Forms, Microlepidoptera, Pyraloids, Bombyces
(Ithaca, New York: Cornell University, 1923).
Eccritothrix trimaculella has straw-yellow to buff
forewing with brownish gray and black markings. There is a brownish gray
shade along the inner half of the costa, darker near the base. The wing
has three distinctive black spots. The spot closest to the inner margin,
about midway along the wing is slightly elongated; the other two spots are more
or less round, the outermost one being significantly larger. The terminal
line is a series of dark brownish gray dots, and there are several short inward
streaks of gray. There is also slight gray-brown dusting or speckling on
the wing. Forbes (1923) indicates a wingspan of 12 mm.
According to Forbes (1923), the adult Eccritothrix
trimaculella flies in July. He gives no information as to host plants
or life history.
My only record to date for Eccritothrix trimaculella (each date
representing "the night of") is in the table below: |
