The same specimen is pictured in the two photos at the top and in the bottom
right photo.
My thanks to Dr. Jean-François Landry of Agriculture Canada and
gelechiid specialist SangMi Lee for identifying the specimen in the bottom left
photo above, which was collected and given to the Canadian National Collection
in Ottawa.
The forewing of Filatima pseudacaciella is mainly a
fairly dark brown, slightly streaky in appearance. Along the costa, there
is a whitish tan streak, crossed by a diagonal brown line near the base of the
wing, and interrupted by a blackish brown mark at the costa near the apex.
The subterminal area is slightly paler brown than the rest of the wing, and
somewhat more regularly streaked. The terminal line is visible as a row of
dark dashes preceding the light gray-brown fringe.
I have little information about the life-cycle of Filatima
pseudacaciella other than the fact that its host plant is black locust, a
tree species not native to my area but planted on a neighboring property.
My records to date for Filatima pseudacaciella (each date
representing "the night of") are in the table below: |
