Both photos are of the same specimen. My initial identification of
this species was based on Covell (1984) and subsequently checked against
specimens in the Canadian National Collection in Ottawa. My thanks to
Dr. J. Donald Lafontaine of Agriculture Canada for confirming the
identification of the actual specimen pictured above.
Archips striana is one of a dozen or so species of Archips
known to occur in the Ottawa area. The forewing is boldly streaked all
over in cream, pale brown, and dark brown to black. Near the outer
margin, a group of dark streaks appear to fan out from a single point.
I would estimate the wing length at a little more than 10 mm.
I have no information about the larval host plant or life cycle of Archips
striana.
I have photographed this species in 2002, on 20 and 25 June; in 2003, on
21 June. |
