My initial identification of Evergestis unimacula was
based on Covell (1984), and subsequently checked against Munroe, E., The
Moths of North America North of Mexico, Fascicle 13.1, Pyraloidea Pyralidae
(Part) (London: E.W. Classey, 1972-1974) and specimens in the Canadian National Collection in
Ottawa.
Evergestis unimacula has broad rounded wings of a dull,
dark gray-brown color. Beyond the midpoint of the costa, there is a large
whitish yellow spot extending downward. There is usually also a much
smaller round spot just beyond the middle of the wing. The hindwing is
dark gray-brown as well, with a much more diffuse pale costal spot. The
hindwing fringe is pale and grayish, whereas the forewing fringe is dark
brown. Covell (1984) indicates a wingspan from 1.8 to 2.2 cm for this
species.
According to Munroe (1973), little is known about the life cycle
or host plant(s) for Evergestis unimacula..
My records to date for Evergestis unimacula (each date
representing "the night of") are in the table below: |
