12:05AM (right) These photographs languished in my
file of "unknowns" for over a year; given this moth's
"smudgy" appearance, I was not even sure that my
photographs accurately depicted what it was supposed to look
like. This species is not illustrated in Covell, and I could
not relate my images to Handfield's illustration of this
species. My thanks to Dr. Douglas C. Ferguson who, on a
visit to the Canadian National Collection of Lepidoptera, pointed
me in the direction of Itame exauspicata. I
consequently based this identification on comparison with
specimens in the National Collection, and on the illustrations in
McGuffin, W.C., Guide to the Geometridae of Canada (Lepidoptera)
II. Subfamily Ennominae. 1 (Ottawa: Memoirs of the
Entomological Society of Canada No. 86, 1972). Thanks to Dr.
J. Donald Lafontaine of Agriculture Canada for access to the
latter resources. |
