Eucirroedia pampina has a deep yellow forewing with
varying amounts of rusty orange shading. The paler yellow antemedial and
postmedial lines are smoothly curved, bounded by rusty brown. The
orbicular and reniform spots are clearly marked, filled with brown inside a
paler yellow outline. In the median area, there is some rusty orange
shading, especially in the lower half of the forewing towards the inner
margin. The subterminal line is somewhat scalloped, preceded by a purplish
brown shade. The hindwing is deep pinkish orange in color. Both
forewing and hindwing are scalloped along the outer margin. According to
Covell (1984), the wingspan ranges from 3.6 to 4.4 cm.
According to Handfield (1999), the larvae of Eucirroedia
pampina have been reported to feed on poplar, cherry and maple, as well as
other trees. He indicates an adult flight season from
the later part of August nearly to the end of September for my general area.
My records to date for Eucirroedia pampina (each date
representing "the night of") are in the table below: |
